Aurora Lumina perform enthralling and unique brews inspired by improvisation, jazz, Middle Eastern and Western Classical music. Aurora Lumina is a new quartet formed in early 2018 by four long standing musical friends. They have been steadily gigging in monthly performances around Melbourne. Aurora Lumina translates from the Latin as ‘first light’, or light of dawn, which renders the spirit that the ensemble members capture each time they meet in performance. The ensemble’s aim is for a genuinely new music which combines the originality of new, long form composition with the fresh spark of creative improvisation.

Aurora (dawn Latin) Lumina (light Latin) also Umina (place to sleep or repose Kurringai language)

We acknowledge the Woi Wurrung (Wurundjeri) and Boonwurrung peoples of the eastern Kulin Nations and First Peoples language groups and communities across Victoria and Australia, the traditional owners and custodians of the lands on which we work, and pay our respects to Indigenous Elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.”
